Today, Governor Matt Bevin filed four writs of election with the Secretary of State to schedule special elections on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. The special elections will fill the following vacancies in the Commonwealth of Kentucky House of Representatives:
- House District 8 in Christian & Trigg counties vacated by the resignation of Rep. John Tilley (D).
- House District 98 in Boyd & Greenup counties vacated by the resignation of Rep. Tanya Pullin (D).
- House District 54 in Boyle & Casey counties vacated by the resignation of Rep. Mike Harmon (R).
- House District 62 in Fayette, Owen & Scott counties vacated by the resignation of Rep. Ryan Quarles (R).
The current makeup of the Kentucky House of Representatives is 50 Democrats- 46 Republicans.
Today Kentucky's Constitutional Officers were sworn in during a ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda. Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes took the oath for her second term while newly elected Attorney General Andy Beshear, Auditor Mike Harmon, Treasurer Allison Ball, and Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles begin their first terms in office.
